ATTORNEY
After graduating from law school, in 1993, Ms. Tillmann began practicing law at Robert P. Sweeney and Associates, a New York a firm that largely acted as in-house Counsel to an insurance company. In this position Ms. Tillmann handled automobile, personal property and personal injury litigations throughout Long Island, Manhattan and its surrounding boroughs. In 1995, Ms. Tillmann relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and entered private practice. There, Ms. Tillmann joined Hall, Patterson and Charne – representing clients in varied litigations, with a concentration on plaintiff suits against employers for sexual harassment, discrimination and wrongful termination. While at Hall, Patterson & Charne, Ms. Tillmann also worked on civil rights matters, including counselling and representation of the Milwaukee Chapter of the NAACP and its members.
In 1996, Ms. Tillmann returned to the East Coast, moving to Princeton, New Jersey. Then, Ms. Tillmann joined Smith, Stratton, Wise, Heher & Brennen where she did employer/management consulting in the employment law arena and handled litigations – largely advising, mediating and defending employers from workplace discrimination claims. Thereafter, in 1999, Ms. Tillmann joined the recently founded Zuckerman & Fisher. At Zuckerman & Fisher, Ms. Tillmann exclusively represented employees in cases involving wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, harassment and retaliation and discrimination and harassment in places of public accommodation.
In 2010, Ms. Tillmann founded Lewis Tillmann Law Offices, a boutique employment law firm, with the aim of helping wronged employees who found legal representation from larger law firms (which generally cater solely to large employers) to be unwelcoming or otherwise cost prohibitive. Ms. Tillmann has handled virtually all aspects of employment and discrimination law, including drafting employment agreements, review of severance packages, negotiation of separation from employment agreements, review and negotiation of severance packages,– and, when an equitable resolution could not be reached, employment litigation. Ms. Tillmann also remained devoted to and continued to work on cases involving workplace harassment, discrimination and wrongful retaliation.
At Lewis Tillmann Law Offices, Ms. Tillmann is dedicated to preventing workplace disputes, by counseling employers regarding equitable, fair and legal workplace practices in connection with hirings, terminations & reductions-in-force. In addition, Ms. Tillmann conducts internal investigations and provides employers with training on recognizing, identifying and preventing discrimination and sexual harassment at work.
